Shop expansion: the full cost ladder Community-sourced
Expansion is the game's biggest spend and its slowest payback. Below is the sourced ladder — what each step costs, which level unlocks it, what it raises — plus the payback math to run before any purchase.
Quick answer
The first expansion is $300 at level 2; the second storefront (Lot B) is $5,000 at level 15. Every step raises rent and your customer ceiling — buy floor space only after shelves stay full. Full ladder below.
What expansions actually change
Every expansion (shop floor or Lot B) does three things at once, per the community wiki: raises your daily rent, raises how much money each customer can spend, and raises the maximum number of concurrent customers your shop allows. That last one matters more than it sounds — it caps your whole store's throughput (see the hiring page: extra cashiers add little while the cap is low).
The first milestones
| Step | Level | Cost | Rent change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shop Expansion 1 | 2 | $300 | +$20/day |
| Lot B (second storefront) | 15 | $5,000 | +$150/day |
| Lot B Expansion 1 | 20 | $1,000 | +$60/day |
Lot B attaches to your current store with an internal door. Note the $5,000 is the shell — shelving and décor for the new space cost extra (GameRant).

The payback math (run it before every purchase)
extra profit per day = new revenue ceiling − new daily costs (rent is the one that never sleeps)
- Stock depth before floor space. More shelf variety only pays if the shelves stay full.
- Storage before display. Cheap bulk buying is the margin engine; display is the multiplier.
- Event tables after traffic. They monetize customers you already have — community advice is to defer them early (they can cut into pack sales) and run your highest unlocked tier once traffic supports it.
- Keep the cash buffer. An expansion that empties your account turns one slow day into a restart.
The ordering above is reasoning from the sourced mechanics (customer cap, rent, event effects), not tested strategy — we mark it as such.
